1. Look at the Pronunciation Chart below and read each word aloud. 2. Record your pronunciation of each word in Springdoo (Do not forget to send a copy to yourself). 3. Post the link to your recording in the wiki "Pronunciation Practice" in Moodle (Week 2). Select the column: "Recording A" 4. Click on each individual word and listen to the correct pronunciation. 5. Practice the pronunciation while you listen to each word. 6. Be aware of the words you did not pronounce correctly in your recording. 7. Record again your pronunciation of each word in Springdoo, and post the link to thewiki "Pronunciation Practice" in Moodle. Select the column: "Recording B" 8. Now, listen to your first and second recording and compare. Do you notice any difference?
Here are some suggestions to improve your pronunciation:
- Look up the pronunciation of words in an online dictionary (e.g.: Merriam Webster).
- After looking them up in the dictionary, and listening to the pronunciation, record your own pronunciation and compare it to the one given by the dictionary.
- When listening to a recording or video, pay close attention to how words are pronounced.
- When reading a text, think how the words you are reading are pronounced.
- When writing a text, think how you would pronounce the words you are writing. If in doubt, use the online dictionary.
